Weekend Summer Fun: Mermaids, Pirates, Ice Cream Getaway!
The pleasures of summer are here. Fireflies light the twilight hours and children dream of fishing, mermaids and pirates. This weekend (July 25-27), venues across the Triangle invite children to indulge their summertime passions. Browse the links below to learn when and where these events are happening.

Kids can take part in nature programs that let them observe nature up close, like catching and releasing lightning bugs in Apex, exploring the secret lives of giant silk moths in Chapel Hill or learning how to fish in Raleigh. Jubilee Music Festival, Family Shows, Art & Nature Fun
This weekend, Triangle families can soak in live gospel and blues music at the Jubilee Music Festival at Historic Stagville in Durham, July 19, noon-4:30 p.m. The free program will offer live performances of the Branchettes, recipients of the N.C. Folk Heritage Award for their gospel singing, as well as internationally acclaimed bluesman Boo Hanks (pictured at left) and slide guitarist and bluesman Lakota John. Head to the N.C. Museum of Art in Raleigh at 6 p.m. Saturday to hear Dan Zanes and Friends perform classic American folk songs, original tunes and music reflecting our nation?s cultural diversity. A Grammy-winning musician and a popular family entertainer, Zanes is a former member of the ?80s rock band The Del Fuegos. Admission ranges from free to $20. Weekend: Outdoor Concerts, Movies, Nature Activities, Indoor Fun
Play indoors or venture out this weekend? The Triangle has lots of both kinds of fun for families. Start your weekend (June 27-29) off by taking in the movie Frozen on Friday at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh during the ?Junior Wolfpack Club Fun Night? that runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Or head to the Morrisville Community Park on Friday to enjoy a bounce house, food trucks, music and games starting at 6:30 p.m. and watch Frozen at about 8:30 p.m., or when it?s dark.
